Description

AD EXchange: Legacy of Architectural Illustration & the KRob Competition is happening on Wednesday,July 12,2023 at 05:30PM CDT at Architecture and Design Exchange (AD EX).

Join the AD EX for our July AD EXchange: The Legacy of Architectural Illustration and the KRob Competition in North Texas

For centuries, architects have used visual imagery to assist in the design process – from simple “back of the napkin” sketches to complex 3-D models and renderings. They help us to understand a designer’s vision, and, through the sharing and refinement of these drawings, architectural ideas find form.

Since it began 49 years ago, the annual AIA Dallas Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation Competition (KRob) has celebrated the best in architectural delineation. In recent years, the competition has averaged over 300 entries from 25 countries. KRob honors hand and digital delineation, as well as travel sketches, animations, and AI generated works by professionals and students from all over the world. It is the longest-running architectural drawing competition on earth, based right here in North Texas.

While the competition has grown increasingly international, it remains a Dallas classic, with winners from the North Texas area each year. Join us for an AD Exchange where we’ll hear from some of the most-winning local artists and designers as they discuss their craft in a moderated discussion and share insight into their creations and influences. Is there a North Texas style? Where did it originate? What is the KRob appeal that has made it last close to 50 years? We’ll discuss all of this and more. The evening will also feature a gallery reception marking the closing of the 2023 KRob exhibition as we prepare for the competition’s 50th anniversary.
