Felix Jarrar and Maria Brea are a vibrant piano and voice duo. Their diverse backgrounds and experiences have earned them multiple stages and acclaim both as a duo and individually.
This special recital brings an array of composers and styles both operatic, art song and popular music. You will get to experience Latin American Zarzuela, such as Maria La O, Felix Jarrar's compositions, virtuoso piano music by Schumann and dazzling arias of composers such as Verdi, Bellini, Mozart and Ambroise Thomas.
MARIA BREA, soprano:A native of Caracas, Venezuela made her debut as Olga in December 2020 in Giordano's "Fedora" with Teatro Grattacielo. She was a Finalist of the renown BBC Cardiff competition and a semi-finalist in the Éva Marton International Voice Competition taking place in Hungry, August 2021. Recently, Maria won 6th prize and the Zarzuela prize at the 2020 Francesco Viñas Competition in Barcelona, Spain which resulted in her debut at Teatro Liceu in the winners concert. In addition,Maria was nominated as Best Actress in Musical by ACE as well as awarded Best Musical Actress by the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors for her performance as Elena in "El Barbero de Sevilla" by Giménez with the New Camerata Opera. Maria won first prize in the Giulio Gari (2017), New York Lyric Opera (2016) and second prize in the Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition (2017). In April 2020, Maria was selected to make her debut as Frasquita in the MasterVoices production of Bizet's "Carmen" at the Rose Theater, Lincoln Center NYC. Previously, Ms. Brea performed as the title role in the world-premiere of the late Anton Coppola's "Lady Swanwhite" with Opera Tampa. FELIX JARRAR, piano
With music described as “dreamlike”(Boston Globe) and “delightfully cruel” (Operawire), NYC-based Felix Jarrar is a composer and pianist with “(strong) dramatic instincts” (Lewis Spratlan, 2000 Pulitzer Prizewinner in Music) whose “music flows from him in the most natural and lively way” (Tom Cipullo). His works are praised as “experimental and beautifully composed” (Broadway World) with “lush and memorable melodies” (Operawire). His list of accomplishments includes performances at Symphony Space, (le) poisson rouge, Feinstein's/54 below, the BAM! Fisher Hillman Studio, Roulette Intermedium, and Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall.
