Swingtime!, Big Band Style (Benefit for Sparrow's Nest)

TheFreedom Park Bandshell in the Town of LaGrange will be the venue for a "Swingtime!, Big Band Style" show presented by The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra to benefit the Sparrow's Nestlocal charity. Performances will be Saturday, June 3rd at 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 4th at 6 p.m. and the suggested donation is $20 per person.

In this exciting springtime event, "Swingtime!, Big Band Style" will feature The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra, including five vocalists and swing dance performers, in a show featuring songs from the core of the Great American Songbook. The famous big bands of the swing era and beyond along with the most celebrated vocalists backed by those same big bands will all be represented with songs such as Ella Fitzgerald's "How High the Moon", Count Basie's "Corner Pocket", Frank Sinatra's "Come Fly with Me", Glenn Miller's "A String of Pearls", Michael Bublé's "Down with Love", and Benny Goodman's "Sing, Sing, Sing". Group vocals will include Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme's "Where or When", Rosemary Clooney & Vera Ellen's "Sisters", and Duke Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)". The greatest American composers' contributions to the Golden Age of Popular Music will also be spotlighted, including George & Ira Gershwin's "Embraceable You", Cole Porter's "I Get a Kick Out of You", Richard Rodgers & Larry Hart's "My Romance", Johnny Mercer's "Autumn Leaves", and many more, all in the most exciting setting of a live big band.

Although tickets won't be required for entry,the suggested donation is $20 per person, which can be made in advance here via EventBright or at a performance. Proceeds from this show will benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity. Sparrow's Nest of the Hudson Valleyprovides meals to the families of caregivers and children diagnosed with cancer. The Big Band Sound has performed throughout the Hudson Valley for over 40 years and this "Swingtime!" show is the tenth in a series of “Big Band Style” shows that have been presented. Over the past six shows, more than forty-three thousand dollars have been raised for Sparrow's Nest of the Hudson Valley. In 2020, The Big Band Soundwas recognized by the Dutchess County Executive's Arts Awards with their Special Citation.

Freedom Park is located at 212 Skidmore Road in LaGrangeville and accessible parking and entry is available. Bring folding chairs, blankets, and picnic items, but please note that dogs are not allowed.
