Happy 185th Birthday, Houston! Here are 185 Reasons We Love YOU!

Happy birthday,  Houston (8/30)! You’re 185 years old and in those 185 years, you have given us many reasons to love you and we are proud to call you home.  You are diverse, strong, beautiful, and of course, our favorite place to be.

We asked our followers, “What do you love about Houston?” and this is what you said!  We would have to agree with all of these, and we think most Houstonians would agree.

The Diversity – We are more diverse than both New York City and Los Angeles!

Endless Stuff to Do! – There is always something to do in H-Town!

That Skyline! – She’s a beauty for sure!

Lizzo – Her music has us feeling “Good as Hell”

The People – Houstonians are notoriously friendly and loved everywhere we go!

The Food! – Houston is home to tons of amazing restaurants!

The Art – The Art Car Museum, murals, The Orange Show,  so many great art exhibits!

NASA & Houston Space Center –  We aren’t known as Space City for nothin’!

Houston Texans – What’s Houston without our football team? We are in Texas, after all!

The Astros – We hit a home run with a team like the ‘Stros!

The Breweries – Welcome to Brewston, home to some top-notch breweries!

Home of the first Domed Stadium – Home to the Rockets!

Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo – We always have a bucking good time!

The Astrodome – It’s the 8th Wonder of The World, of course, it made the list!

Celebrities – We’re talking to you Bun B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Beyonce! 

Houston Arboretum & Nature Center – Get a little closer to nature in HTX.

The Nightlife – From speakeasies to out-of-this-world themed bars, H-Town’s nightlife is LIT!

The University of Houston – Go Coogs!

Buffalo Bayou – It’s just so pretty.

Eleanor Tinsley Park – Nothing can beat those Downtown Houston views.

Gerald D. Hines Water Wall – IG photo shoot, anyone?

The Hidden Gems –  There are so many!

Museum of Natural Science – We love paying the Dinos a visit!

The Be Someone Bridge – Even when it’s gone.

The Love Lock Bridge – Our very own piece of Paris right here in HTX.

Community – We all stand together in times of hardship & help one another.

Holiday Celebrations – We do the holidays big here in Houston!

The Houston Zoo – Who doesn’t love the Houston Zoo?

Dinner and Margarita Cruises in Buffalo Bayou – Nothing better than a Marg cruise on the Bayou.

Flights – Coffee, Wine, Margs, you want ’em HOU’s got ’em

Our Local Businesses – Our local businesses are what make Houston an amazing place to live!

The Party Scene – We party like rockstars

The Rocket’s New Blue Uniforms – They sure are snazzy!

Downtown – Art, tours, and beautiful buildings

The Culture – The diversity in Houston makes for unique and rich city culture.

Hardworking – We work hard and play hard!

Astroworld – Even though it’s gone, we miss it.

National Museum of Funeral History – Kind of weird, kind of spooky, but really cool!

Houston Oilers – Now the Tennessee Titans, and our first football team!

Smither Park – a park full of art!

The Alice & Wonderland Statue – You can find it at Evelynn’s Park Conservancy.

Lucky Land – It’s beautiful and a must visit

14 Pews –  a movie theater in an old church, very HOU.

The Buffalo Bayou Cistern – very useful in the past,  and pretty in the present.

Being the largest city in Texas – Everything is bigger in Texas

Houston was the first word heard from the moon –  We’re kind of a big deal.

The award-winning culinary scene – We love some good food, y’all.

Mild Winters – except for February 2021… we don’t talk about that one.

Our nicknames – H-Town, Screwston, Clutch City, Brewston, Space City, and so many more.

Our Haunted locations – We love a good ghost story!

The Twilight Epiphany Skyspace –  it’s breathtaking!

Montrose – It’s weird,  unique, and walkable.  The. perfect combo if you ask us.

White Oak Bayou –  so many trails to explore!

Lonestar Flight Museum –  learn about some planes or take a flight!

La Carafe – It’s the oldest bar in Houston!

The Dandelion Fountain – whimsical and beautiful!

Eastern Glades –  This wetland park has tons of animal life and honors military history.

Rice Village –  tons of great restaurants and places to shop.

Midtown –  There’s always a new bar to try!

Jim Hogg Park –  The views are beautiful.

Christie’s Seafood & Steak – a true Houston staple.

McGovern Centennial Gardens – Unique and beautiful!

Menil –  Some of the most beautiful works of art.

River Oaks –  We love it all of the time, but especially at Christmas.

Downtown Main Street – The best place to bar hop and ride scooters.

Sabine Street Bridge – Such a pretty spot to grab photos and view the skyline.

The Giant Beetles Statues – an 8th Wonder Brewery must see.

Beyonce – Queen B is Houston Royalty, of course, she made the list.

M-K-T Market – a beautiful marketplace full of local vendors 

Houston Ballet – They always put on a beautiful. show!

The Rustic – Live music, fun events, and great food and drinks!

The Undertaker – Wrestling wouldn’t be the same without him.

Moody Gardens – Especially the butterflies!

Patrick Swayze –  Once the Sexiest Man alive, and we agree.

The Botanic Garden – Beautiful gardens in a relaxing space.

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Houston –  It’s absolutely STUNNING!

Michael Strahan – The former NFL star never fails to show HOU some love.

Evelyn’s Park Conservancy –  the perfect spot to take. the kiddos for a day of play.

Fat Pat – A Houston rap legend.

Hurts Donut – Who doesn’t want a creepy clown to deliver them Donuts?

Tiny’s Milk & Cookies – Cookies and yummy ice cream, too!

POST Houston – an uber-cool new venue that we love.

Burdlife Jewelry – one of the only spots in Texas to get those super trendy permanent bracelets!

Fireworks Downtown – Catch them on the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve!

The Japanese Garden – a quiet hidden gem we adore.

Aqua S –  dreamy sweet treats that will keep you. coming back.

Jennifer Garner – A true Houston sweetheart in  Hollywood.

Eclectic Menagerie Park – Fun, larger-than-life sculptures that make for great family fun.

The Hobbit Cafe – Second Breakfast anyone?

Museum of Health and Medical Science – learn about anatomy and your body in a fun way.

The World’s Longest Carwash – Ok,  it’s technically in Katy, but we’ll claim it.

1940 Air Terminal Museum – an old airport with some cool planes and history.

Underground Food Hall –  Yep, it’s underground!

Waugh Bridge Bat Colony – Watch them take flight at sunset!

Showboat Drive-In –  We love a good drive-in movie with our besties!

Present Company – Cute atmosphere and yummy drinks!

The Children’s Museum of Houston – You and the kids will love it!

The Mullet –  Not the hairstyle, but the mural park!

Glenwood Cemetery – See the graves of some of Houston’s most historic figures. 

George Observatory – Stargaze in Houston on Saturday Nights!

BBQ! – So many great BBQ spots in Houston!

Bayou City Arts Festival – We love seeing all of the art and artists!

Trader’s Village – You never know what you might find here, and it’s always a good time.

Houston’s Pride Celebration – It’s always such a great time!

Greek Fest – a celebration of food and culture.

Mayor Christmas Tree Lighting – Marks the beginning fo the holiday season!

H-E-B Thanksgiving Parade – Sets off the holiday. season perfectly!

We are home to the cleanest airport in the US! – IAH is squeaky clean!

Houston Dynamo – Goal! Soccer is one of our favorite sports here in HOU!

The Police Memorial at Buffalo Bayou – It’s truly beautiful.

Dog-Friendly places everywhere – Fido is welcome at so many places around HOU!

St. Arnold Brewing – the oldest craft brewery in Texas!

Smart Financial Center – One of our favorite local venues.

Jim Parsons – Just like our fave character Sheldon, Jim is from East Texas.

Our residents collectively speak over 145 different languages – seriously cool!

Tex Mex – Houston has over 500 Tex Mex restaurants!

Chinatown – One of our favorite places to spend time in Houston.

The Galleria – Get your shop on!

Our crazy traffic gives us some much-needed “Me” time.

We have 9 Performing Arts centers – We are second only to Broadway when it comes to theater seats!

We have a team for every pro sport except hockey, but that may soon change!

We’re Home to the Tallest 5 sided building in the world.

We have more than 11,000 restaurants – we never run out of new spots to try!

The sun shines around 200 days out of the year – You could say we get our fair share of Vitamin D!
