2020 3M Half Marathon and More Things to Do in Austin This Weekend

A Story By

Now that 2020 is in full swing and we’re all back to our regularly scheduled programming, it’s time to start sharing our top picks for each week again. New year, same good old stuff!

If you’re new around here, welcome! Just to let you know you have stumbled upon the jackpot of all things to do in Austin. You can read in-depth about the best things happening in Austin this weekend below or you can watch the ATX minute above (filmed at St. Elmo Brewing) for a brief overview of what is going down around town.

Let’s keep rolling through January with these awesome events. You don’t want to miss out on what’s happening this weekend!

If running isn’t your thing no need to keep reading. Go on and skip to the next event if you haven’t already. HOWEVER, if running is kind of your thing and you’ve wanted to run a half marathon before but afraid to run one this is the run for you.

Better known as “downhill to downtown,” because the course is primarily downhill. Apparently, a large number of runners set their personal best time during this half marathon because of the downhill course…thanks gravity.

The start of the race is near the Domain and the finish line is downtown allowing runners to see all Austin has to offer throughout the run.

All runners will receive a medal, an Under Armor participant shirt, and access to the finish line festival once they reach the end. The finish line festival is a chance for runners to decompress and celebrate their accomplishments. It will feature live music, Austin food trucks, and a beer garden!

The coziest bar crawl of all is back. Pull those beloved but neglected onesies out of the closet, because this bar crawl is dedicated to those silly yet super comfy pajamas.

Round the crew up and get ready to party your way down 6th Street. Bystanders are going to be jealous of all the fun you will be having all cozied up in your onesie!

Some of the participating bars and drink specials are Burnside’s Tavern with $3 Moscow Mules and $4 local draft beer, Concrete Cowboy with $5 Skrewball and El Tesoro Tequila, Dogwood on West 6th with $5 kamikazis, cosmo shots, and STILL Austin Whiskey, Parlor and Yard with $4 drafts and $5 wells, and many more bars and specials to come!

Unlike most bar crawls there is no particular order in which you attend the participating bars. You are in charge of where you go and when. The specials at each bar will be going throughout the event so stop in as many or as few times as you want.

There will be a $500 cash prize to the person with the best onesie so it’s time to get creative people.

The weekend is more fun when you start it early. Like super early. Like on a Wednesday.

Join St. Elmo Brewing for their monthly installment of drag queen bingo featuring the one and only Louisiana Purchase, Austin’s top drag queen for the last three years and a contestant on Season 3 of Dragula.

They will have multiple rounds of bingo and a performance from Louisiana Purchase between games. Plus, The Litte Gay Shop will be popping up with goodies such as shirts and pins for sale.

Grab your friends and head out to St. Elmo this Wednesday and make hump day feel like a Friday!

This may very well be the only time you see snow in Texas in 2020. However, after last week’s cedar count being through the roof and suffering from some serious cedar fever, I would almost trade it for snow. What’s the point of a gorgeous day in Texas if you can’t step outside due to cedar in the air?

Okay, rant is over, back to what we’re all here for, Snow Day 2020! It will be taking place in Georgetown, which is just a quick drive north on I-35.

The snow day will feature two different play areas divided up by age to ensure all ages can have fun and are safe while doing so. There will be two slides for tubing and plenty of other activities to keep everyone entertained!

But wait! There are even more awesome events to help get you through the week!

Need an excuse to run in your undies? Well, I have one and it’s for an incredible cause!

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic tumor disorder that affects one in every 3,000 births. It mainly affects how nerve cells form and grow causing tumors to grow on nerves. The purpose of the run is to raise money for NF research since there is no cure for the disease. Those affected with NF are unable to cover up their tumors so why should we when raising money?

If you can’t make it out for the run you are still encouraged to donate because every little bit helps!

The run will start and end at Buford’s and will be a brief mile-ish. The run will start at 2PM, but there will be a pre-run party and an after-run party at Buford’s. The whole purpose of the event is to raise money and have a good time while doing it. Encourage your family and friends to join your group or run solo!

Please remember this is for charity and you will be in public so keep it PG.

Are you pumped to run in your undies?
