Life’s a Beach! Be Sure to Spend Some Time at These Beaches Near Houston

A Story By

One of the best things about Texas is its natural beauty, and that includes the Gulf Coast. Luckily for us, Houston is just a short drive away from some of Texas’s best beaches. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway or just a fun day trip, be sure to check out these beaches near Houston!

While Galveston is known worldwide, its sister beach Surfside is still one of Houston’s best-kept secrets. Not only is Surfside a scenic and quiet alternative to Galveston Beach, but it’s also really close for Houston visitors.

Depending on where you live, Surfside is just a 45-minute to an hour’s drive away. And if you’re planning a weekend trip, there are lots of cute, affordable rental homes in the area. Definitely check out Surfside the next time you’re looking for beaches near Houston!

Situated on Bolivar Peninsula, Crystal Beach is a beautiful beach community just east of Galveston. Crystal Beach is perfect for those looking for a nearby beach destination with a lot of activities and things to do!

Relax on the sand, visit the Point Bolivar Lighthouse, go fishing or crabbing, or ride the ferry to Galveston Island– the options are endless. Crystal Beach is a bit further than Galveston/Surfside– roughly an hour and a half from Houston, but it’s definitely worth the drive!

Stewart Beach was named one of the “10 Best Beaches for Families” by Family Vacation Critic in 2013, and it’s easy to see why! Stewart Beach is the perfect spot for a family vacay or a getaway with friends.

Located along the Galveston Seawall, Stewart Beach has tons of great amenities including restrooms, showers, pavilions, playgrounds, beach volleyball courts, and lifeguards on duty. With so many activities, this is a great place for the whole family to enjoy. There’s no doubt that it’s one of the best beaches near Houston!

Fishing fans, this one is for you! Sylvan Beach Park is located in La Porte, Texas and it has one of the best fishing piers around. For just $4, you can hang on the pier all day and fish to your heart’s content!

If fishing’s not really your thing, there are plenty of other fun attractions at Sylvan Beach. Enjoy the soft sand, calm, seaweed-free waters, and a playground for the kids. Plus, Sylvan Beach is only a short 30-minute drive from Houston. Great for a Sunday Funday!

If you like your beaches small and private, El Jardin is the way to go. El Jardin is a beautiful beach in Seabrook, Texas, and it’s mostly visited by locals, making it a very peaceful and secluded spot. El Jardin is also dog-friendly, so it’s a great place to visit with every member of your family… even your furry friends!

Parking can be tricky around this beach, so plan ahead before you go. But the good news? It’s a quick 40-minute drive from Houston– close enough for an amazing day out with the family! El Jardin Beach is guaranteed to be one of the best beaches near Houston.
