1. Philadelphia Museum of Art

The impressionist exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the best around! There are Monets, Van Goghs, Picassos, and more everywhere you look. These world-famous artists have their own section in the New European Galleries. Also, fun fact: your museum ticket grants you two consecutive days at the Philly Museum of Art and the Rodin Museum. Plus, the first Sunday of every month and every Friday night after 5:00 pm is pay what you wish.

2. Rodin Museum

The Rodin Museum houses one of the greatest collections of artist Auguste Rodin outside of Paris. This collection was once owned by local philanthropist Jules E. Masbaum who decided to open his collection for the public’s viewing pleasure in 1929. Enjoy these amazing works of cast bronze, marble, plaster, and clay sculpture right off of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

3. Barnes Foundation

Just a three minute walk from the Rodin Museum is the Barnes Foundation. Founded by Dr. Albert C. Barnes in 1922, his collection hosts some of the most prized impressionist, post-impressionist, and modern paintings in the world. You can admire works of talented artists like Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso.

4. African American Museum in Philadelphia

The African American Museum in Philadelphia tells the stories, achievements, and aspirations of African Americans from the pre-colonial era up to the present day. The museum’s collection includes Jack T. Franklin and over 500,000 negatives he captured during the Civil Rights movement in Philadelphia and beyond, as well as African artifacts gifted by the Philadelphia Civic Center Museum. Three of the exhibits currently on display can also be viewed virtually, so be sure to check out their website for an amazing, immersive experience!

5. The Fabric Workshop and Museum

This contemporary art museum combines its 40 years of archival history with the cultivation and curation of new artists providing them the opportunity to experiment with new materials. Come in to experience the ever changing exhibitions by amazing contemporary artists and the permanent museum collection of 5,000 objects, fabrics, and prototypes. You can even participate in a workshop and make your own silk screen design to print on a provided t-shirt!
