We love burgers around here, whether they’re from fast-food restaurants or more upscale, sit-down spots. Cheap burgers and more elevated burgers all hold a special place in our hearts, and we want to share some of our absolute favorites with you!
Check out this guide for some of the best burgers in Austin for the next time you need to treat yourself to a classic American meal.
1. P. Terry's
We couldn’t talk about the best burgers in Austin without including the iconic P. Terry’s. This fast-food burger joint serves all-natural beef and chicken, fresh-cut fries, fresh-baked cookies, banana bread, and a house veggie burger. To top off your tasty meal, order fresh-squeezed orange juice or lemonade or one of their authentic milkshakes! Whether you’re in a hurry or just want a fresh burger for a great price, P. Terry’s won’t let you down.
2. Fat City Stacks
Brought to you behind the wonderful Peached Tortilla comes a 1950’s drive-in food concept. Fat City features White Castle and Krystal-inspired sliders as well as chicken tenders, tots, old school floats, and creative dipping sauces. You’ll find this hotspot in the same space as Yard Bar, making it a great location to enjoy good company and the beautiful Austin sky.
3. JewBoy Burgers
JewBoy Burgers perfectly combines Mexican and Jewish mash-up fare, making it a one-of-a-kind spot that is a must try for any burger enthusiasts. This diner’s menu features burgers, burritos, and latkes that honor both cultures and pair so perfectly you’ll want to keep coming back!
5. Hopdoddy Burger Bar
This hip, eco-minded chain is an absolute must on your burger bucket list. Hopdoddy Burger Bar combines unique burgers and crave-worthy cocktails and milkshakes with handcrafted beer, making a perfectly delicious and satisfying meal. Plus, each burger features all-natural meats and housemade buns!
6. Pool Burger
Nothing says pool day like a burger, and this Austin spot perfectly captures this vibe. Pool Burger is a tiki bar serving natural, hormone and antibiotic-free wagyu beef from local farms on freshly baked bread from a poolside airstream. Located right by the historic Deep Eddy Pool you’ll feel like you’re on vacation as you enjoy beef and booze!
7. Top Notch
How we feel about these burgers is in the name – they’re Top Notch! Since 1971, this Austin mainstay has served burgers and onion rings in a vintage setting. You may recognize this spot from the movie Dazed and Confused starring Austin legend Matthew McConaughey and his signature catchphrase.
8. Dan's Hamburgers - Austin
Dan’s has been family owned and operated since 1973. It has a wide variety of breakfast foods, burgers, sandwiches, and dinners. They have four locations and plan on opening more because we just can’t get enough of their tasty options. If you want the taste of a crafted burger, this is the place to go. Be sure to pair your burger with some curly fries and a malt!
9. Sandy's Hamburgers
Sandy’s has been a part of Austin’s history since 1946. People flock to their burgers for a taste of old Austin. They’re also widely known for their ice cream custards, which are delicious and rich. You can grab an old-fashioned burger, or make it a double, or even order the chili cheese and onion burger that truly is delicious!
10. Plow Burger
Plow Burger’s motto is that “plants lead our way.” The restaurant is 100% plant-based and is a staple in Austin for many people. We recommend trying the campfire burger, which has crispy fried shoestring onions with barbecue sauce. It’s a unique take on a typical burger, and we absolutely love it!
11. Better Half Coffee & Cocktails
Better Half is the perfect place to go to if you’re craving a burger and a drink (coffee or a cocktail). They have an extensive drink menu that will pair well with any meal here! Our go-to is the Better Half Cheeseburger, but they also have a veggie burger option and a chicken burger.
12. Salt & Time
Salt & Time is a butcher shop and restaurant that serves free meat from sustainable Texas ranches. They offer a variety of house-made sausages, charcuterie, and well-crafted meals. It seems fitting that they have such good-tasting burgers here. The Butcher’s Burger is to die for and comes on a brioche bun to really hit the spot.
