The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the most famous attractions in Center City, but the Barnes often flies under the radar. This impressive museum, founded by local art collector and philanthropist Albert C. Barnes, features a large collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist paintings alongside African, Greek, and Native American pieces, to name just a few. If you have any interest in art, the Barnes is a must-visit attraction.

Foodies of all stripes will find something to love at the Reading Terminal Market, one of the best-loved attractions in Center City. If you’re interested in attractions in Center City that are both historically significant and  photogenic, be sure to visit Elfreth’s Alley. Elfreth’s Alley, a National Historic Landmark, is the oldest continuously inhabited residential street in the United States. You can visit the museum and gift shop, join a guided tour, or walk through the Alley on your own. It’s gorgeous at every time of year.

The Mütter Museum is one of the most offbeat attractions in Center City. This medical history museum features well-preserved anatomical specimens, models, medical instruments, and more. If you have any interest in the mysterious workings of the human body or in the evolution of medical history and culture in America, it’s well worth a visit. Be sure to check out their events page when you plan your visit, since the museum hosts frequent lectures and socials.

The Please Touch Museum is one of the must-visit attractions in Center City for families with young children. One of the country’s most well-regarded children’s museums, the Please Touch Museum embraces a philosophy of learning through play. There are many interactive, hands-on exhibits including a Storytime Cabin, Creative Arts Studio, and Imagination Playground. Advance online reservations are required.
