Katy Heritage Society is a private nonprofit organization that works to protect and preserve the historic resources of the Katy area. Membership is open to all Katy residents.
The society recently celebrated its 40th anniversary Since opening in 1979, when the society formed after a group of concerned citizens met with the City of Katy and Union Pacific Railroad at the old MKT Depot in 1978. The depot was scheduled to be removed, but an agreement was made and the building was bought for $25.
That group of citizens officially incorporated as the Katy Heritage Society the following April. The restored MKT Depot is now Katy’s beloved MKT Railroad Museum.
