American author Zane Grey once said,
“If I fished only to capture fish, my fishing trips would have ended long ago.”
Fishing is so much deeper than simply “catching a big one;” it’s a way of life. Fishing has many benefits and can teach a person some serious life lessons if they’re open to it!
Now through September 30th, you can help reel in a cure for pediatric cancer with The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
Fishing Funds the Cure is a virtual fishing tournament that provides an opportunity for fishermen of all levels to use their passion to raise awareness and funding for our young warriors battling cancer.
What You'll Learn
Top 5 Benefits of Fishing
1. Social Bonding While Social Distancing
Fishing is the perfect way to have fun, spend quality time with your family, and still practice safety first. Lakes and rivers offer ample space, so while we continue to maneuver through COVID-19, fishing offers the best of both worlds. You can easily bond with loved ones while social distancing from others in the area.
2. Relieve Some Stress
We’re constantly worried about so much–children, bills, work, our health, etc. Fishing gives people the opportunity to relax and refresh.
Whether you go alone or with a group, the calming sounds of nature are sure to help you breathe a little easier and relieve the stress you had building up.
3. Cultivate Patience
In today’s society, we are always on the go. The internet, our phones, and social media have brought the world right to our fingertips and we are always wanting things quick, fast, and in a hurry.
But fishing is the exact opposite. It forces you to build up your patience as you wait for the catch of the day to make its way to your bait. Sometimes you may wait all day just to catch a single fish but that’s the beauty in it.
While you wait and without even realizing, you are growing your patience, one fishing trip at a time.
4. Immune Booster
COVID-19 has had us in our homes for the past few months. As cities begin to open back up, fishing is a great way to catch up one some of the sunlight a lot of us have been missing.
The sun is the best source of Vitamin D and is essential for optimal health. Grab your rod, your bait, and some sunscreen and soak up all the goodness the sun has to offer! Trust us, you won’t regret it.
5. Self Rewarding
You know the saying, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Although we love delicious dinners at our local restaurants, there is something wildly rewarding about catching your own dinner!
Fishing is a way for people to become self-reliant and self-reliance increases confidence in a person.
Overall, fishing offers so many benefits and teaches us a handful of lessons. Fishing Funds The Cure is the perfect way to give back, promote health, and push yourself to acquire new skills!
