Guide to Food and Drinks in Oakland
The Porch at Schenley
The Porch at Schenley is a beautiful spot right off of Schenley Park that focuses on using local ingredients whenever possible to create a fresh, vibrant menu with seasonal offerings and daily specials. Enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner in their enclosed porch space or take your food to go and build your own picnic in the nearby park!
Hemingway’s Cafe is an Oakland institution and has dominated the college bar scene for years. In fact, it consistently ranks as one of the best college bars in the country! In addition to its extensive drinks menu that includes plenty of daily specials, their food menu has both the typical, mouthwatering bar snacks and appetizers alongside more substantial items like wraps, salads, a range of grilled cheeses, burgers, and big plates.
Viva Los Tacos
Newcomer Viva Los Tacos is one of the freshest additions to Forbes Avenue, and while we all miss the O, you’ve got to give these tacos a chance! Enjoy plates of three tacos with memorable, tasty flavor combos like honey chipotle carnitas and Korean BBQ chicken alongside a substantial menu of appetizers and bowls. Plus, it’s open to 12am daily, so you can enjoy a marg (frozen or on the rocks!) and a party vibe with your meal!
Fuel and Fuddle
According to Fuel and Fuddle, their name roughly translates to “food and drinks,” so we had to make sure we included them on our list of the top food and drinks in Oakland! Their menu of wild fire food, including fresh thin-crust pizzas from the brick oven, and more than 100 types of beer available daily makes this the perfect spot for a good meal and a relaxing beverage – even late at night!
Zen's Noodle House
At Zen’s Noodle House, you’ll find savory, delicious, and authentic Asian dishes with a focus on Japanese noodles and ramen. Some of our favorites are the stir-fried udon with carrots, onion, and cabbage and the chicken katsu shoyu ramen with fish cakes! You can enjoy your meal in their cozy, modern Forbes Ave restaurant or take it to go.
Across the street from the Carnegie Museum is Union Grill, which offers all kinds of classic, casual American fare in a fun, friendly spot just off Forbes Avenue. We love their “UG Favorites,” including the turkey Devonshire and buttermilk chicken tender dinner, along with their tasty cocktail menu and hefty draft list.
