There’s nothing quite like a good old Summer road trip! Now that the season is in full swing, we totally understand the itching feeling to get out and explore. Even though we love our city, there is definitely tons of fun to be had elsewhere, too. Which is why we’ve compiled a list of fun Summer road trips from Jacksonville!
Providence Canyon State Park
Providence Canyon State Park looks like someone cut a canyon straight out of Arizona and plopped it right in the middle of Western Georgia. It’s truly an unexpected beauty on our side of the states! Nicknamed “Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon”, you are able to hike along the floors of gorgeous red clay ravines and explore unusual geological formations created by erosion. If you decide to check it out, be sure to wear good shoes! Sometimes the canyon floor fills with water.
Florida Caverns State Park
The Florida Caverns State Park provides visitors with another rare experience for Floridians! Visitors are able to explore stunning caves featuring stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, and other cool rock formations. Escape the heat of the summer by taking a tour and traveling underground where the air is cool and the sound of dripping water echoes through the caverns.
Have you ever wanted to swim with manatees? Crystal River is definitely one of the most beautiful places to explore in Florida! The water is super clear, and home to many of our favorite Florida sea cows. There are a couple of different locations to launch kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards on the river. If you’d rather use rentals or take a tour, there are also several outfitters to rent your preferred water vessel from or snorkel off of pontoon boat tours. Keep in mind that the actual spring run is closed during manatee season, but you can still kayak in the Crystal River.
Orlando is full of excellent theme parks that we all know and love. But, they can be pretty exhausting and expensive. If you’re looking to explore something new, Icon Park may be the answer! Not only do they offer fun attractions like the Illusion Museum, The Wheel, a Madame Tussauds Museum, and their Sea Life Aquarium, there are plenty of tasty restaurants to enjoy. They offer plenty of fun for the whole family!

Looking for white sands and crystal clear blue water? Clearwater beach is the perfect candidate for a weekend getaway! The west coast of Florida offers beautiful beaches and stunning sunsets without having to fly to the West Coast of the States. There is also plenty to do in the area, like exploring the inviting small-town atmosphere, dining out at delicious restaurants, and even going to visit the Clearwater Aquarium!
Immerse yourself in nature at one of Florida’s beautiful natural springs at King’s Landing. Located on the gorgeous waters of Rock Springs, you can self-launch with your own watercraft, rent kayaks, and canoes for a self-guided paddle, go on one of their adventure tours, and even experience night tours to escape into the Florida wilderness under the stars. Home to the Emerald Cut, King’s Landing is known for its beautiful aqua-colored waters and lush green vegetation. There are also opportunities to stay on the premises via camping or cabins!
Kennedy Space Center
Spend the day exploring space at the Kennedy Space Center and experience something that is unique to Florida! They often times have special tours and events going on, like their recurring “Meet an Astronaut” program. If you plan it right, you might be able to observe a rocket launch up close and personal, too! Enjoy spending a summer weekend at Florida’s Space Coast!
Another beautiful natural spring, Silver Springs has tons to offer! For those who enjoy a little adventure, you are able to canoe, kayak, or paddleboard along their circular Fort King Waterway Route which takes you through the headsprings and back to the launch. You can rent water vessels for one or two hours, as well. For those who are less experienced, Silver Springs is known for their glass-bottom boat tours, which allow you to see through the crystal clear waters to the bottom of the springs. Keep your eyes on the trees, too, because this area is famous for wild monkeys which were brought into the springs for the filming of Tarzan Finds a Son in 1939!
