It’s Memorial Day weekend in Austin, and you know what that means, it’s the official start of the summer! Each year, our city is filled with tons of sun and life during this time.
From park picnics to kayaking Lady Bird Lake and even some great community events, you have to make time to enjoy the outdoors this week. We’ve rounded up things you can see and do to celebrate, kicking off a more eventful summer than the last.
Looking to break a sweat while enjoying the beautiful scenery of our city? Grab your sneaks, your doggo, and maybe even a bike!
Luckily for you, we know all the best hiking spots in town! Check out our guide to find a hike level and location that’s best for you. One of our favs is the Barton Creek Greenbelt, which has trails for days, along with areas you can stop to have a picnic, go for a swim or enjoy the serene sounds of waterfalls.
No Memorial Day celebration is complete without some bbq grub! And we’ve been all over town to try the mouthwatering bbq joints in almost every neighborhood of Austin. Let us let you in on a lil secret…Austin has some of the best in all of Texas, and we have all the locations on our guide!
If you’re planning to stay at home this year to have some friends over for some chill time, place your orders early. They sell out quick around the holidays.
Want to go camping in the hill country? Well, get yourself a ticket to The Cosmic Connection! This underground (aka secret) hill country campout experience promises a weekend of music, new friends, and starry nights.
For $60+, you’ll get to spend your holiday weekend with people just looking to chill out and be out. There’s also a swimming pool to cool off in.
All you need to bring are the essentials like a tent and food.
Break A Sweat
Summer means gotta get them bods ready for the pool. Kickoff summertime with a workout and bbq! MYLO Obstacle Fitness is hosting this free event to celebrate all things Memorial Day while working out so you can eat well.
The festivities will start with a workout and go into lunchtime. You’ll need to bring your own food and drinks for this barbecue.
If you haven’t been out on one of the Austin area lakes, what are you waiting for? Memorial Day weekend is one of the biggest (and most crowded) weekends to be on the lake. We highly recommend Lake Travis of all the Austin lakes!
Whether it be on a boat, kayak, or tube, there’s no party like a lake party. And because the TX sun gets H-O-T in the summertime, going to the lake sooner is better than later.
Enjoy A Live Show
Looking for a date night plan to enjoy the holiday weekend you two have been craving? Or how about just being able to finally hear some live music after a very long hiatus for the live music capital? Candlelight’s “From Bach to Beatles” is the show for you!
This super intimate (and quite frankly, secret) evening at Chateau Bellevue will have performances by a string quartet. It’ll surely set the mood.
Get your tickets soon because only the $50 option is available.
