An idyllic weekend for me in South Tampa commences irrefutably with brunch at Counter Culture. I propose starting with their Deja Brew cocktail–a marriage of bourbon, espresso, Tahitian vanilla, and a kiss of mint. Chef Pierola’s raspberry danish is something of a miracle, with beautiful lamented layers, luxurious vanilla bean cream, and fresh picked raspberries in perfect formation. The poached eggs bourguignon, featuring succulent pork belly, poached eggs with liquid gold ready to burst, and rounded out with wild foraged mushrooms, is my favorite brunch entree.

After brunch, it’s off to Armature Works (family friendly–and dog friendly outside)–a vast grassy knoll with panoramic city and waterfront views on the exterior and an expansive brightly lit food hall inside, flanked by a rooftop bar and a pair of intimate local restaurants. Bake’n Babes is always my top priority to satiate my sweet tooth. Owner Julie Curry’s award winning salted chocolate chip cookies–boasting a dynamic pair: decadent Belgian chocolate and Maldon sea salt, has amassed a cult following. Aside from cookies and brownies, the showtopping duo of The Works (a mountain of soft serve with a treasure chest of eye-catching lights and treats) and taiyaki cones (soft serve swirled atop a Japanese fish shaped cake cone) are a personal favorite of mine. Other notable favorite stalls of mine include Cru Cellars, Empamamas, Muchachas, and Bento.

To close out an afternoon in Tampa, I love stopping for an artfully crafted libation at Hotel Bar, nestled on Tampa St. A true hidden gem in downtown, Hotel Bar has that bespoke atmosphere adorned with a dramatic chandelier and moody ceiling tiles that lends the environment of a posh hotel. Featuring cocktails from hotels around the globe, I recommend the treasured Sidecar, with a balanced profile of aromatic cognac and bright acidity from lemon.
