Yes, that’s right! This is the SA edition of Triple D we’re wanting to watch on tv ASAP. We asked and tons of you responded with your favorite gems. So, we’re headed Full Throttle towards BIG flavors in the 210! These are some restaurants in San Antonio we’d love to see on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
If you’re not familiar with Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, it’s a Food Network show that’s hosted by the one and only, Guy Fieri. Guy with his big and loveable attitude showcases the classic city gems. Although he has been to the countdown city before, we’re ready to hear him say “gosh, that’s goooood” about some of our faves he might have missed!

Every time Kiki visits Mr. A Ok’s Kitchen, her go-to order is either fried fish or chicken fried chicken. Her sides are double side of mac and cheese and with some Texas toast.

3. Grumpy’s Mexican Cafe
“A place to meet a friend and be a friend.” For over 20 years, Grumpy’s Mexican Cafe makes you feel at home every time you visit. They ensure you leave happy and with a full stomach. How could you not with the generous portion sizes? Some of their Must Try favorites are the Chicken and Waffles with Twisters or the classic, Chili Cheese Enchilada plate. You’re sure to fall in love with this place just as I did. After my first visit with my family, I went back two weekends in a row. Three weekends at Grumpy’s back to back. No regrets.
Pro Tip: Wait times, especially during the weekend, can get hectic. Enjoy a Bloody Mary or Margarita while you wait for your table.

For over 15 + years now, every time I visit Hungry Farmer Steakhouse my go-to order is Chicken Fried Chicken. My sides are fries, a fresh roll, and a house salad with their homemade Thousand Island dressing.

5. Comfort Cafe
A unique and special place “where miracles happen.” Comfort Cafe brings delicious flavors to your dish and also offers help to the SA community. They are a division of SerenityStar, a charitable organization. Their program promotes “a safe, sober, and spiritual environment.” Enjoy some Biscuits and Sausage Gravy for that “you complete me” feeling. Or a yummy but Classic Rueben. You’ll feel great all-around, trust us. Knowing you’ve done some good and enjoyed a great meal too.
Bonus Tip: Comfort Cafe is a “pay what you can” spot but $10 per meal is encouraged and cherished. After all, 100% of the earnings go into the program. Don’t forget about your coffee fix! Java Junkies is sure to help you keep going throughout your busy or fun day.

6. Stixs & Stone
We definitely caught the wave towards Stixs and Stone. How could we not with their mixture of creative and delicious flavors? Induldge in the award-winning taco flight. Mix and match tacos on Thursdays to find your favorite. Plus! You’ll want to make your way to the “Home of the FREE Mimosa Sunday Brunch.” Did someone say, Sunday-Funday with a side of Skewer Trio or Wok Fried Kimchi Bowl? Count us in!

7. Bobbie’s Cafe
It all started with buying a truck stop back in 1972, and they’ve been cookin’ with love ever since. Not only do Bobbie’s Cafe and Pie Bar offer BIG flavor, they also bring soul and history! A southside San Antonio favorite and staple. You’re sure to fall in love with their homestyle Meatloaf or Liver and Onions.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to leave room for delicious homemade pie or some double chocolate cake.

8. Fattboy Burgers & Dogs
You can never go wrong with a good ol’ hamburger or hotdog, they’re classic! It tastes better when you feel like family as you’re enjoying it. Fattboy Burgers and Dogs, born in Texas, not only has massive food portions. They’re delicious and fresh too. Get a hold of a Fattboy Burger (1/2 pound of fresh ground beef) and some fresh-cut fries. The friend pickles are amazing and don’t forget about your domestic or premium beer to wash it all down.
