This Is For All You Sports Fans Out There: Best Sports Bars in Austin

A Story By

Let’s talk all things sports and food. After all, sports are a major part of most cultures. While it’s not always possible to attend a live football or, for that matter of fact, any live sports game, one can have just as much excitement gathering a group of friends and heading down to one of these local sports bars in Austin.

Here is a guide for the best places to watch sports in Downtown Austin while also enjoying some great-themed food.

Moody’s Kitchen + Bar welcomes all sports fans, foodies, and guests who like to have a good time.

Moody’s has the type of environment in that it is laid back and welcoming. With a full bar, large interior, and upbeat patio, Moody’s is the best spot to relax and enjoy your favorite sporting team win while grabbing a delicious bite to eat.

They have some of the best classic American food and handcrafted cocktails.

Monday–Wednesday | 3PM–10PM
Thursday | 3PM–12AM
Friday–Saturday | 11AM–12AM
📍2530 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705

Little Woodrow is a great place to catch sports playing on the TV while enjoying a nice cold glass of beer. A great pairing to go alongside the beer is one of their many tacos one can order.

What makes this sports bar unique is the variety of events they try to celebrate. On some Mondays, they offer “Tex-Mex Mondays” in which you can enjoy $20 corona buckets and $4 Texas and Mexican drafts.

They’ve also had an event called “For the love of Saturday” in which all pints and cans were discounted.

Monday–Friday | 12PM–2AM
Saturday–Sunday | 11AM–12AM

📍520 W 6th St, Austin, TX 78701

Cain and Abel’s has been around Austin since 1991, which means it’s a Texas classic to check out.

The sports bar is located on the corner of Rio Grande and 24th Street, the perfect place to gather with friends and family for any social gathering. They offer happy hour Monday through Thursdays from 2PM–7PM.

On top of Happy Hour specials, the place also offers various food specials on various wraps, cheeseburgers, tacos, sandwiches, and more.

Every Day | 11AM–2AM

📍2313 Rio Grande St, Austin, TX 78705

Another great place where one is guaranteed to have a good time is Buford’s.

If you want to watch the actual game, commercials, or simply come for the good food, Buford’s is a must for your next outing. They often have 50 beers on tap, including other cocktails, craft beer, and frozen tiki drinks.

Sometimes they even have live music or DJs for the perfect entertainment.

Monday–Friday | 4PM–2AM
Saturday–Sunday | 12PM–2AM

📍700 W 6th St, Austin, TX 78701

What’s nice about Parlor and Yard is the space they offer for guests both outside and inside for lounging.

They offer an Astroturf yard where they have ping-pong, shuffleboard, corn hole, board games, cocktails, shareable snacks, and lots more.

On the menu, they also feature different “game-day specials” such as different drinks like Blue Lion shots, Buffalo Bills Labatt Blue, and more.

Tuesday–Wednesday | 5PM–12AM
Thursday–Friday | 5PM–2AM
Saturday–Sunday | 12PM–2AM

📍601 W 6th St, Austin, TX 78701

Cover 3 is a sports bar that offers an alternative dining experience for the sports fan and sophisticated diner.

The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is classy. They have a bounty of huge screens, so almost all the tables are prime spots for watching your favorite sports team.

Not only is the atmosphere inviting, but so is the food. From pepperoni flatbread to nachos piled high, wings, Mongolian pork lettuce wraps, iceberg wedge salad, and much much more. What more could you ask for?

Temporarily Closed

📍 1717 W 6th St #210R, Austin, TX 78703

For many, The Tavern has been a hangout spot for over 70 years. It’s an iconic sports bar that is known for its food and history.

The Tavern is the official home of the Austin Aztex, with 46 HD surround TVs–upstairs and downstairs! Catch all your favorite NFL, NCAA, MLB, and NBA teams on all the televisions.

I recommend it as a great place to meet up with your buddies, enjoy some cold drinks, a classic American burger, and catch up over your favorite sports team.

Sunday–Thursday | 11AM–12AM
Friday–Saturday | 11AM–2AM

📍922 W 12th St, Austin, TX 78703

Daily happy hour, game day buckets, and great food from wings to Turf n’ Surf, what’s not to like? Lavaca Street bar is a great option where guests can enjoy good food (and trust me when I say you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu).

However, a fan favorite is the buffalo chicken tender basket (usually big enough to fill three people).

Even though this sports bar is in the heart of downtown, this local establishment does offer an additional outside patio with a bar, TVs, and tables to boot.

One extra thing to keep in mind is that it is a 21+ establishment, so an I.D is required for entry.

Monday–Friday | 12PM–2AM
Saturday–Sunday | 11AM–2AM

📍405 Lavaca St, Austin, TX 78701
