Looking for a wild experience? Check out Brazos Bend State Park! This state park around Houston is a nature lover’s paradise. Be sure to bring your walking shoes, binoculars, and camera as you explore 37 miles of trails throughout the park. 

Walk, bike, or horseback your way through Brazos Bend State park. Nature has top billing at the park, but they have so much else to enjoy. Go fishing from the shore or fishing piers, stay overnight at the campsite, host a picnic in the pavilion or take a virtual tour with their interactive trails map. Come for the day or stay for the weekend at Brazos Bend State Park.

Immerse yourself among majestic trees and natural beauty at Huntsville State Park. One of the most beautiful state parks around Houston, Huntsville State Park is home to the East Texas Pineywoods. There is so much to do besides exploring nature in the park. 

Come camp, hike, bike, picnic, fish, swim, paddle, geocache and study nature within the park. Check out the lake with a designated swimming area open from 10AM to 8PM, fishing piers, boat ramp, and canoe, kayak, and paddle board rental. If you prefer dry land, they have 21 miles of trails and a playground to enjoy. Rend a group pavilion for your next event or spend the night at the campsite. Huntsville State Park will soon be your favorite nature stop around Houston.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city at Galveston State Park. Come to the island to stroll the beach or splash in the waves. Galveston State Park is for sure one of the most relaxing state parks around Houston.  

With both beach and bay sides, Galveston Island State Park offers activities for every coast lover. Lounge on the beach, go fishing, take a dip in the water,  and canoe or kayak along one of the paddling trails. They have 4 miles of trials to hike or bike, campsites to spend the night on, a nature center to explore, and much much more. Relax and spend the weekend on the island!

Educate yourself about Texas’ history and explore Stephen F. Austin State Park. Stephen F. Austin chose this area as home base for es­tab­lishing Anglo-American colonies in Texas. Learn more of his story and enjoy a time-out in nature at this beautiful state park around Houston. 

After Learning about Texas’ early col­o­nists at nearby state historic sites, explore the beautiful nature Stephen F. Austin State Park has to offer. Bike or hike five miles worth of trails along the river bank, under tall hardwood trees, and through the upland swamp. Host your next family reunion at the dining hall and stay at the group campsite. Wander through this historic site and enjoy nature at Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center

Spend the day on the water at Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center. The primary activities at this beautiful state park are fishing and wildlife observation. Open every day for fishing, there is no such thing as an off-season here. Launch your boat to cast your reel from the water or fish from the bank. 

There is so much wildlife throughout the park to explore. Bring your binoculars and travel along the 0.5-mile self-guided nature trail that passes 28 naturalized ponds that contain alligators and other wildlife. Other activities in the park include group programming, birding, wildlife/nature study, hiking, and fishing for children. Bring the family and spend a day surrounded by nature at Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center.
