Nothing says the holidays like tamales! Whether you’re sharing homemade ones with loved ones, going out to a restaurant to grab some with your significant other, or picking them up to enjoy at home, tamales are everyone’s fave.

Now that the holidays are finally here, it’s an even better time to chow down on them. Luckily for us, Houston has so many incredible spots for tamales, and we’re ready to share them with you! Scroll on to find out where to get the tastiest tamales in Houston for the holidays.

When it comes to tamales in Houston, no one knows them better than Alamo Tamale y Taco. In business for over 50 years, this North Houston favorite has become so popular that they now have two Houston locations. They have several varieties of tamales for you to try, including mild pork, spicy pork, beef, chicken, spinach, and sweet tamales during the holiday season.

Handmade or machine-made tamales are available, as well as lots of delicious tacos and other Mexican dishes. Since their drive-thru opens at 7 AM, this is an amazing place to pick up some breakfast tacos in the morning!

Humble folks, we have a fantastic spot for you to check out as well. True to its name, Granny’s Tamales started with “Granny” Juanita Gonzalez’s mouth-watering tamale recipe, and it has since grown to over 8 locations across the United States. And the Humble location is one of the best– it was ranked as one of the top spots for Tamales in Houston!

They offer 13 different varieties of tamales, including pork & beef, chicken, jalapeño, and cheese, bean & chorizo, and more. Each order is served with Granny’s own special red and green salsa. Get there early though, sometimes the line can be around the block during the holidays.

Anyone in Cypress or Jersey Village knows that Balderas Tamale Factory is the place to be if you’re looking for delicious tamales in Houston. You can call ahead now and order your tamales in bulk if you’re planning to share them with your family over the holidays. Options include pork, chicken, hot pork, beef, or hot beef, and they are reasonably priced at $9 per dozen.

If you’re picking up your order in the morning, be sure to grab a couple of breakfast tacos too! They are absolutely to DIE for, and they come in a variety of flavors including bacon egg, chorizo egg, bean cheese, or carne guisada, to name a few. Balderas Tamale Factory is 100% worth the visit!

The first of its kind in Houston, Arandas Bakery is an authentic Mexican panaderia that specializes in traditional sweet bread, specialty cakes, and other delicious traditional treats. Arandas Bakery is completely family-owned. The Camarena family first opened their doors in 1993, and they have since expanded to four locations in and around Houston.

Now, let’s get to the menu! Arandas Bakery offers pork or chicken tamales, and they are available for catering as well if you have a big group coming over this Christmas. In addition to their tamales, you are going to want to check out their sweet breads and desserts– conchas, sweet empanadas, churros, cookies, and more. This is definitely a must-visit Mexican restaurant in Houston!

You definitely want to keep them in mind the next time you have a lot of family coming into town or maybe a holiday party coming up soon. Malena’s offers several varieties of tamales including pork, chicken, bean, brisket, cheese & jalapeño, spinach, and more.

While you’re at it, pick up a cheesecake– choose from pecan, strawberry, or eggnog with bourbon & nutmeg. For a really fun and unique activity, you can even schedule a private tamale class with Malena’s Catering. This includes 3 hours of instruction on prepping tamales in the comfort of your own home. With mouth-watering homemade tamales, breakfast plates, and breakfast tacos, Los Toritos Tamales is one of our fave Mexican restaurants in Houston. You can order tamales by the dozen or half-dozen and choose from flavors such as brisket, spicy chicken, bean, cheese, & jalapeño, or pork.

Breakfast plates are also served all day! There are so many options, but our favorites are the chilaquiles, migas con huevo, and huevos con tamales. Of course, breakfast tacos are also available– you can’t go wrong with a bacon & egg or potato & egg taco. If you’re in the Pearland area, this is a can’t-miss restaurant!

With only the best quality since 1997, the folks behind Tamales Doña Tere know a little something about tamales. The restaurant was originally founded by Pedro Gonzalez and his wife Modesta Gonzalez and has since grown to six locations in the Greater Houston area.

But, let’s get on to the food! They offer several types of tamales including jalapeño with cheese, pork with red sauce, beef with peppers, and a sweet kind with small pineapple chunks. On the weekends, you can enjoy delicious soup specials like Mexican Lamb Soup, Pozole, and Mexican Beef Soup. There’s so much to love at Tamales Doña Tere, making this one of the best spots for tamales in Houston.
