When July 4th falls on a random weekday it throws everything off. Not the weekly guide to the best stuff to do in Austin, but everything else. I wouldn’t let y’all down like that!
Think about it. Who here has Thursday off? So cool and all but hey, did you think about going to work Friday after celebrating America’s birthday? I know that’s not going to be easy for any of you. I feel comfortable betting a large number of y’all call in “sick” Friday morning and I don’t blame you.
Sorry to have brought it up but I am just preparing you for what’s to come after July 4th. I’m going to be honest with y’all, it’s a slow weekend on the event spectrum because, well, you guessed it, everyone is preparing for a three-day recovery post 4th of July. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some awesome things to do and check out around Austin.
If you’re up for it, here are the best things to do in Austin this weekend!
1. Jack Ingram and a Fireworks Show
Austin is known by many as the live music capital of the world, which means our community welcomes new music venues with open arms. Haute Spot in Cedar Park, just 15-20 minutes north of Austin, opened up in April.
Let me start by saying how cool this place is. It’s the perfect place to go for a weekend concert without getting completely swamped with people. From the outdoor stage to the inside bar, it’s only a matter of time before Haute Spot becomes the hot spot in town.
Jack Ingram takes the stage this Friday night and if you didn’t get enough fireworks on Independence Day, you will get another to enjoy post-concert.
There will be food trucks on site for you to snag something to eat but if you plan to attend, be sure to plan ahead for the cash-only bar.
Ticket options for this concert are a little different than normal, they’re offering a discounted price if you wish to attend not only Jack Ingram but Jason Boland & The Stragglers the following night. You can purchase a general admission ticket which allows access to the concert or you can purchase the VIP ticket which includes one free drink, reserved tables and seating on the first floor, table service throughout the concert, balcony views, and a private VIP bar including air-conditioned bathrooms.
Haute Spot is still building up their summer concert series lineup, so be sure to keep checking back to see when new artists are added to the schedule. To make it even better keep checking the @StufftoDoinAustin Instagram page for VIP ticket giveaways!
Pool party season is in full swing, but take my word for it when I say this is not your ordinary pool party. If you’re looking to lounge around, drink some drinks, and listen to music then you may as well keep on scrolling because this pool party isn’t for you. Just a forewarning so I don’t waste your time.
Anyways, for those of you looking to get down and turn up with DJ Hella Yella, then you have come to the right place. This insane pool party takes place multiple times throughout the summer at RIO, a multi-level sports bar and lounge featuring a pool and cabanas on it’s rooftop.
There will be insane tunes thanks to DJ Hella Yella, a whole lot of dancing, and maybe some swimming? Who knows, the pool may just be there to look cool. Although, if you do get hot you have a place to cool down.
Summertime means outdoor movies everywhere. On the lawn, in the park, in your backyard, while floating in a pool, everywhere. Austin Motel presents its latest and greatest poolside event, Float Fridays.
This Friday, they’ll be showing the Adventures of Pricilla, Queen of the Desert. Prior to the movie, the poolside bar will be serving up Malibu Rum specialty cocktails and a live DJ will be spinning tunes.
The film starts at 8:30PM, so grab your pals and arrive early to ensure you get in. Entry will be $20 at the gate (no presale) and will be first come, first serve.

RTX is taking over Austin this weekend. The three-day convention celebrates all things entertainment, such as animation, gaming, comedy, internet, and more.
The convention encourages fans to become friends and experience RTX with a community of like-minded individuals.
The schedule for each day of the convention is cram packed with tons of awesome activities for you to participate in. You can take a peek at the schedule for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to plan out your visit!
All schedules are subject to change.
I’ve shared numerous times how much I love the farmers’ markets we’re all so lucky to have around Austin and towns surrounding us. One of my favorites, however, is the Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller.
Likely the thing I love most about it is that it takes place two times every week. Once on Sunday mornings and again on Wednesday evenings, so if you’re unable to make it one day you can just go the other day.
This market takes place right next to a small lake and has something for everyone. They have kids activities at every market, free community composting at the Sunday market, live music, food trucks, and plenty of vendors passing out free samples. Who doesn’t love free samples?
A few of my favorite vendors to see while I am there is Buddha’s Brew so I can load up on my kombucha for the week. I have to make a pit stop to pick up some peaches because it’s peach season and I love me some Fredericksburg peaches! Soul Popped Gourmet Popcorn is a must! I have an unhealthy obsession with popcorn and I fully embrace it. These are just a few of my stops but I could wander through the market and stop at every vendor so you will just have to make a trip and check them all out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed!
