We have all been there! Wanting to get out and do something but not knowing any affordable things to do. Stretching your dollar doesn’t always mean stretching your fun. Well, you’re in luck! There are so many things to do in Houston that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Houston is such a big city and with a big city comes big adventures! Join us as we share some of Houston’s best kept (and inexpensive) secrets! Let’s get started!

1. Jesse H. Jones Park

First on our list is Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center. This park is part of one of Houston’s largest nature preserves, and admission is free! If you love nature and a hiking this park is definitely for you. There are miles of trails both paved and unpaved for hiking enthusiasts. There are also traditional park amenities that are available. The Nature Center also provides educational services so you can get a full experience. This is definitely one of Houston’s most fun and affordable things to do!

2. Sam Houston Boat Tours

Second on our list of affordable things to do in Houston is the Sam Houston Boat Tour! This cool tour is free to the public and last about 90 minutes. It’s a great way to learn about the port of Houston and get a unique view of the ship channel! This tour is very popular and brings people from all over Houston together. Be sure to book your spot and take the whole family with you!

3. Houston Zoo

“Take me where the wild things are!” One of our favorite things to do in Houston is go to Zoo! The Houston Zoo is one of the top affordable things to do in Houston. The Zoo offers a wide range of animals for you to visit. There are so many majestic animals and activities for the whole family! There are plenty of learning opportunities as well especially with the live classes and demonstrations hosted by the animal caregivers. The Houston Zoo has Free Admission on the first Tuesday of each month!

4. Houston Arboretum and Nature Center

Another lovely, natural wonder right here in Houston! The Houston Arboretum is a beautiful place to explore. There are several specialty gardens and a lovely island to watch a large variety of Butterflies! They host multiple events that cater to all interest throughout the year. You can also go for a nice walk on one of the paved trails to clear your mind or take in the scenery. The arboretum is definitely a bucket list place here in Houston.

5. Waugh Bridge Bat Colony

This oh so unique experience is completely FREE. Every evening you can gaze at the spectacular sight of thousands of bats taking flight. They fly across the sky to begin nocturnal adventures! Right in the heart of Houston these winged creatures sure know how to make a grand exit!

6. Pedal Boats in Hermann Park

One of the top affordable things to do in Houston is visit Hermann Park. There is a major delight waiting for you once there! Pedal Boats!!! You can take a nice small cruise on the water while enjoying your loved one! This is the perfect activity to solidify any afternoon. The pedal boat rentals are for 30 mins and allow you to have fun and close your Apple Fitness ring all while sitting!!!
