Looking for a fun weekend getaway full of good food and good times? The Houston Heights is going to be your new go-to destination. With an endless number of outstanding restaurants to explore, cute and chic boutique hotels, and several exciting activities, The Heights really is one of our favorite neighborhoods in Houston.
In this guide, we’ll walk through the perfect weekend in The Heights from start to finish, including where to stay, lunch & dinner options, delicious dessert shops, and cool events to check out. Read on for some amazing recommendations to get you started!
If you’ve always dreamed of staying in a Victorian manor, now’s your chance! Sara’s Inn is a gorgeous Victorian-style bed & breakfast, and it’s the perfect spot for a cute weekend getaway in The Heights. Every inch of this place is stunning– sip coffee on the large wrap-around porch, curl up with a book in the Parlor Room, or relax with friends on the spacious covered patio.
All of the rooms are decorated with antique furniture and ornate wallpaper, so you’ll truly feel like you’re sleeping in a palace. There are plenty of fun things to do around the area, and even though Sara’s is temporarily not serving breakfast, you’ll easily find some great local spots within walking distance. This would be a truly beautiful place to enjoy your weekend in The Heights.
And on the opposite end of the spectrum… we have the Heights House Hotel! While Sara’s Inn is all about quaint Victorian charm, Heights House Hotel is more of a fusion between ultra-modern and retro chic.
This once-dilapidated motel has been transformed into a funky, upscale hotspot with a resort-style pool, modern guest rooms, live music, food trucks, and photo-ops galore. The Space Cowboy Bar and Lounge is also on-site, allowing guests to grab some delicious cocktails and food during their stay. This would be an incredible spot for a Bachelorette party or just a getaway with your pals!
Once you’ve locked down your accommodation, it’s time to think about the most important part of any vacation… food! When you visit Houston, you will definitely not be disappointed in the many incredible restaurants we have to offer. And one of our favorites has to be Squable! Squable is an upscale restaurant from the team behind Anvil, the popular cocktail bar in Montrose. Speaking of cocktails… Squable has so many good ones!
We love the refreshing Levity, which combines gin, blood orange, lemon, earl grey, lavender, and soda. If you’d prefer something a little more festive for the holidays, go for the Egg Nog or White Cosmopolitan. Squable also offers a stellar brunch and dinner menu, with some of our favorites being the Lè Brunch Burger or the Pappardelle al Limon y Pepe (pictured here). What a great spot to check out during your weekend in The Heights!

We all know you can’t visit Houston (or Texas for that matter) without sampling some Tex-Mex food! We have just the place for you. Eight Row Flint is a trendy Tex-Mex restaurant known for its tacos, whiskey selection, and excellent guacamole.
If you’re a frozen cocktail fan, we recommend starting with a Frozen Flight. This will give you a taste of their frozen margarita, frosé, and frozen gin and tonic. If you’d prefer to stick with margs only, the Pink Rattlesnake is a crowd favorite: tequila, orange curaçao, fresh lime juice, lime oleo, housemade hibiscus serrano syrup, and egg white.
To soak up these drinks, start with a classic– chips and guacamole. At most places, guac is missing something. But Eight Row Flint absolutely nails it every time! Next, grab a Taco Combo Dinner. You can choose from Brussels sprouts, chicken, shrimp, pork, or beef barbacoa. Yum!

After dinner, you deserve a little sweet treat! Red Dessert Dive has just the fix you’re looking for. This is a funky and fun bakery in the heart of the historic Houston Heights neighborhood, and it began as a passion project for Jessica, the restaurant’s owner. You can get virtually any delicious treat here, including a range of full-size cakes, brownies, cheesecakes, cupcakes, cookies, pie, muffins, and croissants.
One of our personal faves is the bread pudding, which comes in plain or chocolate flavor and is served with a Bourbon caramel sauce. You also can’t go wrong with the Tres Leches cake or salted caramel brownie. Delish! You can pair your delectable dessert with a beer, glass of wine, or cup of coffee. What a great way to spend your weekend in The Heights!
