The Philadelphia Phillies are back. Well, for Spring Training.
After their magical run that came up just short last season, the Phils come into this season with a ton of promise and a bit of pressure. Not only has this team retained almost all of its key components, it’s gotten even better. Star shortstop Trea Turner signed with the Phillies this offseason, as well as some pitching staff additions to round out the rotation and bullpen.
In the Spring Training action that has gone underway, the standout man has been 3B Alec Bohm. Bohm showed up with about 15 pounds of muscle added on, and it has paid off at the plate early. Bohm leads the team in home runs and batting over .400.
Top pitching prospect Andrew Painter looked promising in his first appearance but has been dealing with elbow tenderness, sidelining him for the time being as the team moves cautiously with the 19 year old’s throwing arm.
Spring Training is the time to get an early idea of what the team is shaping up to look like for the upcoming season, and the Phils are looking pretty darn good.
