Wood Fired Up Pizza represents the perfect fusion of old-world Italian craftsmanship and hometown Jacksonville flavor. Our story is rooted in a legacy of restaurant excellence that began in 1982 when brothers Larry and Mitch Raikes opened their first sandwich shop in Jacksonville, Florida, eventually growing it into the beloved "Larry's Giant Subs" restaurant empire.
In 2016, inspiration struck during a European adventure. Larry and his wife Deanna sent their sons, Max and David, abroad, where they discovered the extraordinary taste of authentic Neapolitan-style pizza. That experience ignited a vision: to bring that same authentic Italian pizza experience home to Jacksonville. The "Fired-Up Pizza" concept was born from this passion.
Authenticity isn't just a goal—it's our standard. To ensure we captured the true Neapolitan method, the Raikes family brought master award-winning pizza chef Attilio Albachiara directly from Naples, Italy to train our staff in the centuries-old techniques of traditional pizza making. We imported our custom-made pizza oven straight from Italy, along with Le 5 Stagioni Pizza Napoletana Italian "00" Soft Wheat Flour and authentic San Marzano tomatoes—the same ingredients used in Naples for generations.
But we didn't stop there. To perfect every element, we installed "The New York Watermaker" system, which replicates the legendary water of Brooklyn, NY. This attention to detail, down to the water itself, ensures every pizza achieves that unmistakable, authentic taste.
While Neapolitan pizza is our heart, our menu celebrates great food in all its forms. We've developed signature items including Anchor Bar Style Buffalo Wings, Deanna's State Fair Cheese Curds, hand-cut fries, and an array of mouth-watering options. Our craft cocktail bar features the best Happy Hour pricing in town, making us the perfect spot for any occasion. And honoring our roots, the complete "Larry's Giant Subs" menu remains available, bringing together decades of Jacksonville favorites under one roof.
