Let's head to the lake! 💦

The sun is out and the temps are up, which means it is time to get back on the water! Lake days are our favorite kind of days, and luckily, there are plenty of lakes in Dallas for every aquatic activity.

For new spots to boat, swim, or fish, keep reading as we share some of the best lakes around Dallas! Now, let’s get to planning your next lake trip!

White Rock Lake

White Rock Lake has an incredible walking and running trail, but our favorite part of this lake is the water activities. Rent single kayaks, tandem kayaks or paddleboards to enjoy a day on the water. Grab your pals and paddle around one of our favorite lakes in Dallas!

Grapevine Lake

Grapevine Lake has everything you could want for a beautiful day on the lake! Rent a boat, rent a kayak, or just go for a dip in this picturesque lake northwest of the Dallas. We are partial to the boat rentals because there are so many options! Depending on your mood and your group size, you can choose from jet skis, pontoon boats, ski boats, party barges, or party yachts!

Lewisville Lake

As one of the largest lakes in north Texas, and certainly the biggest lake around or in Dallas, Lake Lewisville has plenty of space for some fun in the water! Visit to take part in activities like fishing, skiing, swimming, and recreational boating. While you’re there, you should definitely check out Party Cove where you’re sure to have a good time!

Lake Texoma

Lake Texoma may be located right on the Texas-Oklahoma border, but the longer drive doesn’t stop us from including it as one of our favorite lakes in Dallas! This lake is perfect for any boating excursion, and there is plenty of space for wakeboarding and knee boarding. For something more lowkey, you can’t go wrong with paddle boating.

Joe Pool Lake

In the opposite direction of Lake Texoma, you’ll want to visit Joe Pool Lake. This is one of our favorite lakes in Dallas for fishing. Drop your line in hopes of getting fish like largemouth bass, white bass, white crappie, and channel catfish at Joe Pool. Be sure to plan time to catch air as you wakeboard on the water!

Lake Ray Hubbard

Another one of the largest lakes in Dallas, Lake Ray Hubbard is a great recreational lake for all aquatic activities. Swim, boat, or fish at this spot just northeast of downtown. We recommend utilizing the spacious water for tubing and waterskiing!

Lake Granbury

Located right in the heart of Granbury, Lake Granbury is an idyllic oasis perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway. Participate in various water sports, fish, or boat on this lake just southwest of Dallas. Our favorite activity at Lake Granbury is paddleboarding, but you’ll love anything you do here!

Eagle Mountain Lake

Eagle Mountain Lake, though smaller than others, has everything you need for a great day on the lake. Swim, fish, or boat on this beautiful lake. Just like Lewisville Lake, Eagle Mountain has a Party Cove of its own. Tie up your boat in this spot to swim, drink, and have a great time with new friends!
