Drive-in movies are making a comeback and are better than ever before! These spots allow guests to watch their favorite films while enjoying the comfort of their car, the tastiness of concessions, and the company of friends and family. And we absolutely love them!
Because of the awesomeness of drive-in theaters, we decided to compile this guide of five memorable drive-in movie theaters in Austin. Each place has a unique element that makes them stand out from the rest so we hope you enjoy. When you have a chance to visit these spots, be sure to let us know on social media!
The first and only mini urban boutique drive-in movie theater is located in Austin, Texas. How lucky are we? Blue Starlite paved the way for a new drive-in resurgence across the country, and we are all so thankful for it! Because they only take 15-30 cars a night, Blue Starlite requires less space and is more exclusive, more personal, more intimate, and closer to home!
Blue Starlite concentrates on indie films, art house, cult, Gen X/Y, childhood favorites, and drive-in classics, meaning there is something for everyone to enjoy watching. Plus, the Mueller location is so convenient and near great places to eat and explore!
Another Blue Starlite location is in Round Rock, for all our Austinites a bit further north! This new location offers all the features of the Mueller original, making it equally as incredible and definitely worth the visit.
One aspect of the Round Rock location that differs from the two in Austin is that Round Rock has 40 car slots instead of 15-30. Don’t worry, though: while it is slightly bigger, you still get the intimate, personal, one of a kind drive-in experience!
The final Blue Starlite location just opened August 27 and is Downtown! This rooftop drive-in theater is perfect for date night or hanging out with a group of friends, as you get a gorgeous view of the Austin skyline behind the movie.
Plus, this location features musical performances like upcoming Austin Opera at the Drive-in, Downtown Austin Alliance Nights, and Jerry Jeff tribute. Blue Starlite pegs itself as the drive-in movie theater for the modern age, and we couldn’t agree more!

The Globe Drive-In Movie Theater is a modern take on a favorite pastime, offering family-friendly movie options, affordable concessions, and an intimate outdoor movie experience you won’t forget! The inflatable screen is bigger than other local pop-ups and the specialized screen surface offers far better definition than old-school painted wood options. Plus, The Globe offers an intimate experience, maxing out around 40 cars.
This spot also has well-stocked concessions with an ever-expanding menu and features cult classics and family-friendly favorites. You’ll quickly fall in love with this spot for movie-watching with an incredible view of the stars and a great community of people!

Right outside the Austin city limits in Buda is Doc’s Drive-In Theatre, an entertainment-focused experience that is completely worth the few extra minutes it’ll take you to get there. Its gates opened in 2018, and since then it has offered Austinites much more than a drive-in theater. Doc’s features themed tiny homes for overnight stays, an on-site restaurant with full-service dining, a bar for a relaxing drink or two, a private beach complete with a swimming hole, and family-style entertainment.
You won’t find another local, outdoor drive-in theater in Austin that can boast the level of entertainment Doc’s provides! Go for just a movie or stay for fun, games, events, parties, and delicious food.

As of right now, Ranger Cattle is temporarily closed, but this place is so special to us, we had to include it! Every Friday night, this farm-to-table cattle ranch transforms into a drive-in theater! Ranger Cattle features a classic favorite on the big screen alongside free cocktails, free beer, and free water as well as wagyu burgers and concessions that are available for purchase from their infamous firetruck.
Plus, before the show, Ranger Cattle offers live music and hay bales for all to enjoy. Gates open at 6:30PM, the movie begins at 8:45PM, and the gates close at 11:30PM. Stop in on a Friday night for a relaxing, fun evening as you enjoy drive-in movies in Austin at Ranger Cattle!

MoonStruck is a relatively new drive-in movie located in Austin. There’s always enough space and tickets for whenever you have last-minute plans with friends or your significant other. The concessions here are top-tie, so it’ll almost feel as if you’re in an AMC. Come stop by and check out a movie every once in a while, especially after a long day. If you’re ever in Houston, they also have a location there that overlooks the downtown area.
