Matt’s El Rancho and More Tex-Mex in South Austin

As most of us know, the Austin food scene is one of the best in the entire state. Our Tex-Mex scene is top-notch and definitely helps us rank high as a foodie city!

The South Austin Tex-Mex scene is perfect for any and all occasions, you can’t go wrong with any spot on this list. Starting with Matt’s El Rancho you can try one or try them all, but we think you should try them all!

1. Matt’s El Rancho

Matt’s El Rancho is known for their incredible food and most off all the Kock Out Martinis! They have everything you didn’t know you needed. They have a huge outdoor seating area so you can keep your social distance during this time. And don’t forget to order the fajitas to share with family and friends!

They used to allow guests waiting for a table to hang around the bar to drink and mingle but now that space is used too to help space out tables. Instead, you can bring some drinks of your own and tailgate in the parking lot while you wait to be seated! It’s a win-win for everyone

2. Polvo’s

Come for Polvo’s authentic and traditional Mexican food and stay late for their pitcher of margs! They have an extensive menu for any time of the day and even offer one of the best happy hours in the city. They open at 7AM every day of the week making it a perfect spot for you to kick start your day!

3. Güeros Taco Bar

? Güero’s Taco Bar

Güeros authentic Mexican food was opened by a couple 60 years ago and is now run by their two daughters. The outdoor patio space is perfect to enjoy an icy cold Mexican beer, hand-shaken margarita, or anything else from the full bar all while enjoying the people watching South Congress offers. You can watch the hand made tortillas being made right in front of your eyes. They make for some of the best tacos in the city!
