If you’ve ever dined at a Michelin star restaurant, you know that it is the ultimate mark of quality for fine dining. The star system dates back to the 1920’s, and a restaurant is capable of earning up to 3 stars for their service and food. Highly trained inspectors award stars to a restaurant after some serious “secret shopping”, and they can take the stars away at any point to ensure that restaurants maintain the same pristine quality!
There are nearly 200 Michelin star restaurants in the US, but currently only in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington D.C. (but there will be some in Miami soon!) Even though Jacksonville has no Michelin stars of their own, here are the restaurants in the 904 worthy of a Michelin star!
Fine dining without the dress code – sign us up! Restaurant Orsay is a French Bistro with Southern American touches. Their menu is eclectic – you’ll find dishes like the Prince Edward Island Mussels Frites next to a Vegetable Shepherd’s Pie. If you want to splurge, they have a Grand Plateau that’s a raw seafood lovers dream, piled high with Gulf Coast oysters, poached shrimp, scallop tartare and calamari. Make sure you save room for dessert, their Madagascar Vanilla Creme Brulee is to die for!
For a delicious meal on the water, head to Marker 32. The owner is a Jacksonville native who attended New York’s Culinary Institute of America – he was actually recently named one of America’s Best Chefs! Their menu has fine dining favorites like Salmon or Filet, as well as some Jacksonville touches, like a local catch of the day! Don’t forget to make a reservation here, Marker 32 is known to fill up fast.. especially on the weekends!
Although they may not be Michelin star ranked, Matthew’s Restaurant has been a AAA Four-Diamond award recipient since 1999! This French/Mediterranean fusion restaurant uses classic French techniques to prepare their delicious meals. Their service is impeccable and you’ll swoon over the art of the plating! For the full experience, try the Chef’s Adventure Menu. This six-course dinner changes each season, your server will walk you through each carefully planned out bite.
Rue Saint-Marc is one of Jacksonville’s trendiest restaurants. It offers craft cocktails and delicious dishes in a fashionable environment. They serve local produce and meat that has been sustainably farmed. Just like Matthew’s, they have a Rue Experience offering, where you’re treated to a chef-selected five-course meal. If you’re not hungry enough for that, snag something from their standard menu, where they offer first, second, and third course selections.
If you’re looking for fine dining with a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean from every table, head to One Ocean’s Azurea restaurant. Their menu is full of fresh seafood, try out the Local Catch Trip, Florida Line Caught Red Snapper, or the Day Boat Seared Scallops! This is a great choice for your next celebration or special occasion!
Salt is located inside the Ritz-Carlton on Amelia Island, and it definitely lives up to the precedent that the hotel sets! If you’re staying at a five-star resort you expect five-star service, right? Salt certainly delivers this. Thier menu is on the smaller side, but each dish is carefully created and packed with flavor. Enjoy a true white tablecloth meal with a stunning view of one of America’s best beaches.
