As the Summer months quickly approach us and the itch to explore the outdoors creeps in, it’s almost second nature for us Floridians to want to spend time on the water, and paddleboarding is a great way to do just that! We’ve found some of the best places to paddleboard in our beloved city!
Whether you’re an expert-level paddleboarder to just picking it up as a hobby and need paddleboard lessons, Jacksonville and its surrounding areas offer beautiful scenery for your next adventure. Pick up your board and paddle, because no matter what your skillset is, there’s an estuary or spring close enough to Jax for you to explore!

Are you looking to try out paddleboarding for the first time but don’t want to invest in all the equipment? Check out All Wet Sports, one of the best places to paddleboard in Jax! They have SUP (stand-up paddleboarding) and kayak rentals that are very affordable. You can rent a paddleboard for 90 minutes for just $20 dollars. If you wanted to paddle around for longer, it would cost an additional $10 dollars per hour. Keep in mind that your life jackets and paddles are included in the price!
During your paddle, you are able to explore Big Pottsburg creek, as the shop sits where the creek meets the St. John’s River. The creek is beginner-friendly and is easily navigable, so no maps are needed. This area is also notorious for numerous natural Florida wildlife sightings, such as turtles, crabs, and even manatees, so keep your eyes on the lookout! You are also allowed to bring your furry friends aboard with you. Dogs make fantastic paddleboard companions, and All Wet Sports welcomes them to come along on your voyage.
If you’re looking to step up your paddleboarding game, or just to explore more of Florida’s natural beauty, Castaway Island Preserve is one of the best places to paddleboard! They offer easily accessible kayak and paddle launches so you can start your journey throughout the marshes with zero struggle. Be prepared to paddleboard through 300 acres of coastal habitats that inhabit the San Pablo River. If you are looking to spend the whole day outdoors enjoying Florida’s sunny weather, be sure to check out the many nature trails that also occupy the park. Hiking and paddleboarding? We can’t think of a more perfect day!
Castaway is also known to have some of the best birdwatching opportunities around town, so bring your binoculars to fully immerse yourself in this experience! Keep your eyes peeled for great blue herons, white storks, ospreys, and other Florida wildlife.

You are also able to rent bikes and various beach games, like bocce ball and corn hole, through them!
To get into Hanna Park, it costs $5 per car, but you will have a full day of fun! Once you get tired of paddleboarding, you are able to take a break and lay out by the beach. If you want more adventure, you can always check out their various bike paths as well!
Just south of the Mickler’s Landing beach access, this park offers thousands of acres of protected wetlands to explore on a day out, making it one of the best places to paddleboard! They have paddleboards and plenty of other watercraft options available to rent over various time periods. You are able to choose your paddling adventure from three different bodies of water; Guana Preserve, the Intercoastal, and the beaches along A1A.
Each choice has several launch options, so it all just depends on what kind of adventure you wish to have! Exploring Guana would give you a calm, relaxing paddle with plenty of opportunities to see Florida wildlife. Over 500 species of birds have been spotted here!
