Located in the heart of downtown, the Driskill hotel is a must-see on any day, but it’s especially beautiful during the holiday season. Walk through the historic, elegant lobby (currently outfitted with their signature 16′ Christmas tree) and then pay a visit to the bar upstairs (voted one of the best bars in Texas, and one of the best hotel bars in the nation). Should you choose to pop the question here, the hotel is also a very popular place for weddings – it’s a two-for-one!
Pay a visit to this gorgeous outdoor space with your loved one. Nestled just next to Zilker Park, this outdoor museum lets visitors take a walk through the picturesque garden and connect with art and nature. The sculptures are surrounded by towering trees and tranquil streams, making it easy the hustle and bustle of the city. UMLAUF is available to rent for weddings as well.
The stairs might be tedious to climb, but it’s hard to beat the views from Mt. Bonnell, which make it the perfect backdrop for a proposal. This West Austin park overlooks a large section of Lake Austin and the neighborhoods below. It’s especially spectacular at night, and if you time it right, maybe you’ll catch a meteor shower. Romantic? We think so.
Some more great scenery can be found at the cliffs by the 360 Bridge. It’s a short trek to the top, with breathtaking views of the river. This destination has become quite well-known in recent years, but it’s still quiet and secluded enough for a proposal.
It wouldn’t be Austin without Zilker Park– it’s a great spot, with the perfect background for a proposal. We’re partial to going at sunset, or shortly thereafter when you can truly appreciate the city lights! You can also visit the Zilker Botanical Gardens if you’re looking for something a little more scenic.
Celebrate your love with one of the most iconic Austin holiday traditions. The Trail of Lights has been a holiday staple for over 50 years, and the holiday tree at Zilker is one of the most recognizable structures appearing every winter. If you’re a kid at heart that enjoys spinning under the tree, we don’t recommend having too much funnel cake beforehand.
Hidden away in Hyde Park, the Commodore Perry is a beautiful location for any event. Travel back in time as you walk the historic grounds, and make it extra special with a chef-prepared picnic on Sundays. Be sure to check out Lutie’s- the Estate’s newest restaurant. Be sure to check out the Commodore Perry website for any special events going on, and make a day of it! They’d love to host your wedding, too.
There are some pretty great murals around Austin, but this one is probably the most well-known. Located at Jo’s Coffee on South Congress, this simple mural has seen many Instagram photos in recent years. What better place to grab a coffee and make it official with the person you love?

Whether you’re an Austin newbie or an OG, you’ve probably seen this hill at Auditorium Shores. Although unassuming, it offers some of the best views in Austin- especially in the evening when the city is all lit up. While you will usually find some tourists here, it is still relatively quiet at night. This makes it quite a romantic spot!
Check out one of Austin’s newest restaurants- Nido at The Loren. Just south of downtown, this stylish restaurant offers swanky cocktails, delicious food, and some great views of the Austin skyline. So grab that special someone and make it a night to remember!

Although the bats have flown home for the winter, the South Congress bridge is an iconic Austin location during any season. Experience some gorgeous views of the river, and then head to the shops on South Congress or some bars downtown. The bats will be returning in March for that perfect photo-op.
Brigeda has been an Austinite since 1992. Despite spending some time in California and Colorado, she's always found herself back here. She loves trying new bars and restaurants and any water-related activities. When she's not out exploring, you can find her kickboxing, doing some arts and crafts, and drinking a lot of coffee.
