5 of the Best Hiking Trails in Jacksonville to Get You Up and Moving

A Story By

We all know that Florida weather can be too hot to be outside most of the time but during this time of year, it is the perfect time to hit the trails! The weather has cooled down and we can actually dress a little warmer to go outside… it is a Florida miracle. And we have a guide to 5 of the best hiking trails in Jacksonville just in time for this beautiful weather.

So bundle up and get your hiking shoes on to check out all these hiking trails in Jacksonville!

The Baldwin Trail is a 14.5 mile long trail and has many entrances. This trail is meant for those who love to bike or walk. We love to take our dogs on this trail because it is a paved road the whole way and they are many entrances in Duval County. There is even an entrance in Macclenny, Florida in Baker County. It is very popular during the late afternoon when the sun is about to go down so if you are wanting more peace and quiet, we recommend going in the mornings!

This 3.6 mile trail is about an hour outside of Jax but well worth the drive! We have traveled to this trail a few times to enjoy the most peaceful creek and beautiful views! It is best to go in the mornings when the weather is cool and it takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete depending on the speed you are going. We highly recommend brings an eno or hammock to set up while you enjoy the running water and beautiful views.

We know what you are probably thinking… a waterfall in Jax?! It may be just a small one but still! It is worth visiting and who doesn’t love a good waterfall backdrop for a photo? Amenities include the northern swamp trail off of Imeson Road and over two miles of hiking/mountain bike trails at the Old Plank Road trailhead.  You will encounter large oak trees and lily ponds! Bring the dog and head out to this WATERFALL trail. 😉

This is another trail in Jax that is really popular in the dog community! It is such an easy trail to bring the dogs to and there are a couple of options when it comes to level of intensity. There are a lot of amenities at this regional park as well as history. You can find out more about the person behind the name of the park and more on their website!

Hanna Park is best known as a campsite in Jacksonville but they also have amazing trails. Hanna Park has over 20 miles of trails for the hardcore mountain bikers and the entire family to enjoy. The park entry fees are $3 per person or $5 per car (up to six people.) You may also purchase an annual pass if you plan to visit a lot. This park is very popular on holiday weekends from our experience so make sure to purchase any camping tickets in advance. We highly recommend this park for their trails and many other amazing amenities.
