The holiday season is fast approaching, and what better way to get into the spirit than to visit some incredible holiday lights in Houston? There are so many cool light shows to visit this November and December– drive-thru light trails, walkable wonderlands, movie nights, and more.

📷 Zoo Lights

Zoo Lights is one of Houston’s most popular holiday traditions, and folks keep going back year after year for a reason! Hosted at the Houston Zoo for 10 years, the Zoo Lights display features animal-themed light displays, illuminated flowers, light tunnels, and more. Check out the Holiday Grove, in which the zoo’s beautiful oak trees are wrapped in lights and decked out with glowing flowers.

Pose for a photo in front of the 33-foot color-changing tree, or catch up with Santa himself at Twiga Café. There are so many exciting things to do at Zoo Lights!

We all know of the Houston Marriott Marquis for its iconic Texas-shaped lazy river, but did you know that during the winter months, the Altitude Rooftop pool is transformed into a holiday lights experience? This event is back for its second year and bigger than ever, with new light installments and over 20 new Insta-worthy features.

Walk through the Archway of Lanterns, float in the (80 degree) lazy river as lights twinkle above you, or catch a holiday movie on Thursday nights. This would be the perfect spot for a cute, wintery date night. Don’t miss out on one of the best events for holiday lights in Houston!

Festive activities are always fun, but they’re even better when they’re free! Every year, the historic River Oaks neighborhood knocks our socks off with their stunning holiday decorations. Gather your friends and fam, hop in your car, and blast some Christmas music while you drive through the River Oaks streets and marvel at the beautiful lights.

Almost every street is decked out in lights, so be sure to drive down side streets and explore. However, the must-visit areas are River Oaks Boulevard, Inwood Drive, and Del Monte Drive. If you can visit on a weeknight when traffic is lighter. This has to be one of the best FREE holiday activities in town!

If you’re looking for boredom busters for your kids while they’re on holiday break, look no further than the Moody Gardens Festival of Lights! This event is truly a holiday spectacular, with a walk-through lights trail, train rides, holiday-themed 4D films, an arctic slide, fireside s’mores, and more festive fun.

The lights trail is fun for the whole family– it includes more than two million lights and themed festive scenes set to holiday music. Stop along the way to check out Star the Dancing Tree of Light or grab a hot chocolate. What a perfect place to see holiday lights in Houston!

You’ve never seen a lights display quite like this one! Magical Winter Lights is a 20-acre light show extravaganza that features over 100 individual lantern sets in 8 themed sections, and it truly is a sight to behold. Visit the magical castle, Christmas village, Houston skyline replica, interactive dinosaur area, carnival rides and games, and acrobatics shows on select nights.

This is basically a maze of large-scale light exhibits, and your family members of all ages will enjoy strolling through it. Be sure to keep Magical Winter Lights in mind this holiday season!

Space geeks, this one is for you! Galaxy Lights is Space Center Houston’s highly-anticipated holiday event, and it’s one of our favorite spots for holiday lights in Houston. This interactive and technologically-advanced light display features a kinetic light show choreographed to music, huge 3-D astronaut light displays, a 30-foot rocket replica, and a 200-foot holiday light tunnel that celebrates the Solar System and space travel.

Galaxy Lights is a one-of-a-kind Houston activity– it would be a great place to take out-of-town guests over the holidays.

Don’t feel like walking? Visit a drive-thru lights show instead! Dasher’s Lightshow is Houston’s original drive-thru lights experience, and it’s a blast for the whole fam. You’ll drive through immersive light-up tunnels, watch light shows coordinated to your favorite holiday tunes, and see snowmen, Santas, and trees galore.

You can tune your radio to a designated station to hear the holiday music! The show lasts for 20-25 minutes at an idle speed, and you only have to buy one ticket per vehicle. Load up your car with all of your best pals and enjoy!

The Light Park in Spring, TX is a huge drive-thru lights trail that features larger-than-life Christmas trees, a snowflake tunnel, jolly snowmen, Santa’s sleigh, and so much more. Tune your radio to The North Pole’s #1 Hit Radio Station as you cruise through– DJ Polar Ice will entertain you with holiday hits and witty banter.

Ticket pricing is per car, making this a really reasonably-priced holiday activity. This has to be one of the BEST spots to enjoy beautiful holiday lights in Houston!

Sugar Land friends, we didn’t forget about you! If you don’t want to drive too far to see amazing holiday lights, check out the Sugar Land Holiday Lights, conveniently located at Constellation Field. Featuring over 3 million lights, 8 themed areas, visits with Santa, and a variety of vendors to browse, this is an amazing spot to check out this holiday season. Sugar Land Holiday Lights also includes a carnival, with 12 exciting rides to enjoy. Once you’ve purchased your tickets, you’re welcome to stay as long as you’d like and explore the attractions with your family. Your kids will definitely thank you for taking them to the Sugar Land Holiday Lights!

And last but certainly not least, we have The Christmas Ranch! The Christmas Ranch is located in Cleveland, Texas just off of I-69. This is a drive-thru light show that has been delighting families for over 35 years! It’s 100% free and operates from Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s. You can visit the impressive light display between 6-10 PM any day of the week, but be sure to go on a Saturday in December if you want to have a special visit with Santa.

There are so many fun and festive things to see here, including a Ferris wheel, windmill, polar express, and much more. When it comes to holiday lights in Houston, the Christmas Ranch is an amazing option!
