There’s so much to love about fall, from cozy sweaters to corn mazes, apple picking, and more. Grab your favorite flannel and boots, pour a mug of hot cocoa, cider, or anything pumpkin spice-flavored (we won’t judge), then head out to some of our favorite fall activities in Philadelphia! These fall activities are delightful for all ages, and they’re the perfect places to make memories with the whole family.
Hop on Route 611 and drive about one hour out of Center City Philadelphia to reach Hellerick’s Family Farm in bucolic Bucks County. Their fall festival, which begins September 16, 2021, includes plenty of fall activities to delight kids and parents alike. Wander through the five-acre corn maze (estimated to take between 45 and 60 minutes), visit the farm animals, take a hayride and more. Feeling adventurous? Try out the Aerial Adventure Park or sign up for a Goat Yoga class (both are available on Saturdays and Sundays).
Enjoy the gorgeous fall weather, take some picturesque family photos and maybe even save yourself a trip to the grocery store by going apple picking! Linvilla Orchards is open daily for pumpkin picking, apple picking and several other fall activities, such as apple blasting, hayrides, a beer garden, and more. If you’re lucky (and depending on when you visit), you may have a chance to pick other crops, such as peaches and grapes. Make sure to purchase a timed ticket online before heading to the orchard!
You don’t have to travel all the way to New England for leaf peeping! The fall foliage is spectacular throughout Fairmount Park’s over 2,000 acres. Hike, bike, or stroll on one of the park’s many easy to moderate trails for some truly gorgeous views. There are several historic mansions and gardens to tour, as well. Our favorites are Strawberry Mansion, Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, and West Fairmount Park’s Horticulture Center.
The Philadelphia Zoo is a wonderful destination for everyone, especially families with young children. There are lots of fall activities available to enjoy during Boo at the Zoo, which runs for three weekends in October. Costumes are encouraged! In addition to the animal exhibits, kids will love the carousel and Nature Blazer Scavenger Hunt.
You could easily spend a full day shopping, dining, and exploring the beautiful scenery at Peddler’s Village. Visit between September 6, 2022 and October 30, 2022 for the Scarecrows in the Village event, where you’ll see over one hundred scarecrows and be able to vote on your favorites! Looking for something a little spookier? Head to the village between September 10, 2022 and November 7, 2022 for a Murder Mystery Walking Tour!
