A quick look at Pride history

Pride began as a protest—and grew into a powerful movement for love, liberation, and equality. From the Stonewall Uprising in 1969 to today’s vibrant celebrations, Pride honors the resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community and the ongoing fight for rights, visibility, and acceptance around the world. St. Pete Pride officially launched in 2003, becoming one of the largest Pride events in the southeastern United States.

Since then, other celebrations have joined the scene, including:

  • Tampa Pride (est. 2015): Held in Ybor City, this event features a street festival, Diversity Parade, and a community health fair.
  • St. Pete Pride Month (expanded in 2021): Now a month-long series of events in June, including a Trans March, Youth & Family Day, and a massive waterfront parade.
  • Gulfport Pride (est. 2022): A newer, grassroots-style celebration emphasizing inclusivity in a small-town setting.

Together, these events reflect Tampa Bay’s growing and diverse LGBTQ+ population, as well as the region’s ongoing commitment to equality.

See you at Pride

Pride in Tampa Bay is more than just a party — it’s a powerful statement of visibility, resilience, joy, and love. Whether you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally, there’s a place for you to celebrate, support, and stand together.
